SECTOR OVERVIEW

Our Environmental Sector delivers comprehensive environmental solutions to meet the full project lifecycle needs of clients in renewable energy, oil & gas, transportation, and manufacturing industries. With one of the largest multimedia air and land permitting and compliance teams in the country, we support client success in manufacturing and industry, liquids delivery and processing, natural gas storage and delivery, power generation and delivery, and transportation projects.

POSITION SUMMARY

TRC has a temporary on call position for a Field Biologist / Field Ecologist to join our Permitting, Planning and Licensing Practice. The successful candidate will support our FL Offices and will be involved in a wide variety of energy and infrastructure related projects including electric transmission, renewable energy (wind/solar/battery storage), as well as transportation and other development projects.


Responsibilities

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS

  • Identify avian species.
  • Conduct construction monitoring/oversight.
  • Identify riparian areas and flag areas for access/exclusion.
  • Monitor field crews and provide direction regarding environmental compliance.
  • Collect accurate data in the field and produce professional reports in the office.
  • Utilize GPS units and phone/tablet apps to locate work areas.
  • Support energy and transportation projects involving a wide array of state and federal permitting programs.
  • Conduct general and protocol level species surveys (e.g., gopher tortoise, indigo snake, etc.), rare plant surveys, as well as other diverse biological field work.
  • Have a working knowledge of erosion and sediment control, best management practices commonly implemented during construction, and familiarity with construction of energy and/or transportation-related projects.
  • Conduct wetland delineations and functional assessments.
  • Research and write memorandums, technical reports and environmental documents.
  • Abide by Company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • The employee will spend most of their time in the field. Regular travel throughout Florida is required for project-based biological support. Travel throughout the southeastern U.S. is possible with some potential to travel throughout the entire nation. Short to extended stays in hotels are required.
  • The employee will drive to customer/client sites and walks outside during weather and high temperatures (can be above 100 degrees F). Walking will occur on paved surfaces (asphalt) and unpaved surfaces such as forest, tall grass, gravel, and steep slopes. Must be able to work up to 10 hours per day, which includes a combination of driving, standing and walking. Must be able to access remote locations on foot with steep inclines, high temperatures, and other adverse weather conditions.
  • Perform a wide range of administrative or technical tasks in an office setting. Require the ability to work under stress and to meet deadlines with a continuous, close attention to detail for accurate results.
  • The employee must have strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to communicate clearly and concisely to prepare reports, specifications, applications, and correspondence.
  • Must be able to interact with all levels of management and to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • The employee must have a commitment to customer satisfaction and the ability to work in team-oriented environment.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus in use of computer monitor and other manual, task-related functions.
  • Flexibility to travel.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, natural resources, or related field.
  • Post-degree experience conducting general and protocol level field surveys, wetland delineations and permitting, permit compliance monitoring and/or inspections for construction projects is preferred.
  • Successful applicants will be able to interact in the field with clients, contractors, and environmental agency representatives.
